The first domestic refrigerators available in Australia were imported and very expensive. Even in the 1940s, and later, most households relied on insulated ice chests with blocks of ice from an ice works delivered to their door every day or so. Similarly, mixers (including the very popular Sunbeam Mixmaster) were luxury items at first. They are now to be found in every kitchen.
