Sophie Masson Public Reading
During 2017, author Sophie Masson spent some time with the Tamworth Powerstation Museum as part of the Stuff of Tales partnership project between Arts North West, Museums Australia, the New England Writers’ Centre and Bauer Media. She’ll be reading her story inspired by that, 'Turning on the Light'.

STEAM ENGINES RUNNING – ALL DAY INTO NIGHT!
As part of the Museum's 130th Anniversary of the Switching on of the Lights, the Mighty John Fowler Steam Engines will be running all day and into the night. Come down and see them in action! The Museum will be open with guided tours from 9am to 10pm.

In 1888, Tamworth became the first municipality in the Southern Hemisphere to have electric street lighting. This is why Tamworth has become known as ‘City of Light’. The story behind the Council’s progressive decision to set up a steam powered electric plant to light up Tamworth’s streets at night is full of colourful characters who championed the introduction of electric lighting and those who staunchly opposed it.
